Player

A player that starts fast and stays smooth.

Streamr plays every stream on mpv and FFmpeg — the engine behind the Mac’s best video players — with VideoToolbox hardware decoding, buffer profiles tuned for live IPTV, automatic reconnects, and full control over subtitle and audio tracks.

What video engine does Streamr use?

mpv with FFmpeg, using Apple’s VideoToolbox for hardware decoding and gpu-next rendering. It handles HDR passthrough on XDR and HDR displays, deinterlacing, debanding and optional frame interpolation. An Apple AVFoundation engine is also available for HLS and MP4 streams, with Picture-in-Picture.

How does Streamr reduce buffering?

With buffer profiles, fast stream probing, HTTP auto-reconnect and transparent stream restarts with backoff. Pick a profile in Settings › Buffering & Network:

  • Low Latency: keeps live streams as close to real time as possible
  • Balanced: the default for most connections
  • Maximum Stability: a bigger buffer for unreliable providers
  • Custom: set buffer size, read-ahead and timeouts yourself

Can I change subtitles and audio tracks?

Yes. Choose any audio or subtitle track from the player menu, or cycle them with S and A. If subtitles or audio drift out of sync, adjust the delay (G / H for subtitles). Drag an external subtitle file such as .srt onto the player to load it, and style subtitles with a live preview in Settings › Subtitles.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?

The player is fully keyboard driven:
