FAQ
Streamr questions, answered.
Streamr is a $29 a year Mac app that plays your own Xtream Codes or M3U playlist on up to 10 devices, after a 7-day trial with no account. Below are straight answers about the trial, billing, devices, playlists and privacy.
Trial and pricing
How much does Streamr cost?
Streamr costs $29 a year. That one plan includes every feature and every update while you’re subscribed, on up to 10 devices — less than $2.50 a month.
How does the trial work?
Every Mac gets a 7-day trial that starts the first time you open Streamr — no account, no email, no card. Each device gets its own trial, so you can try it on the Mac you actually watch on. Reinstalling the app doesn’t restart it.
What do I get for $29 a year?
Everything. There’s one plan: Live TV, the TV guide with catch-up, Sports, Movies and Series, My Lists, content filters and parental controls, the mpv player, playlist sync, every update while you’re subscribed, and up to 10 devices on one account.
Is there a monthly plan?
No. Streamr has a single yearly plan at $29 a year, which works out to less than $2.50 a month.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, in two clicks from your account page. Streamr keeps working until the end of the year you’ve paid for, and you can resume before then if you change your mind.
What happens when the trial ends?
Streamr asks you to sign in and subscribe. Sign in with your email address (Streamr emails you a 6-digit code), subscribe on the website, and the app unlocks on that Mac. Your playlists and settings stay where they are.
Accounts and devices
How do the 10 devices work?
Each device you sign in on takes one of your 10 seats. Sold a Mac or ran out of seats? Remove a device from your account page and the seat opens up again immediately.
Do I need an account?
Not for the trial. To subscribe, you sign in with just your email address: the app takes a 6-digit code and the website takes a one-click link from the same email. There’s no password to remember.
Do my playlists sync between devices?
Yes. Sign in and your Xtream Codes logins and M3U links follow you to every device, and you can manage them on this website. Passwords are encrypted at rest. Playlists added from a file stay on the Mac they came from; only their names sync.
Do favorites and My Lists sync too?
Yes. Favorite movies and series and your custom channel lists follow your account to every Mac. Edits made on different Macs, even offline, are merged instead of overwritten.
Playlists and content
Does Streamr come with channels?
No. Streamr is a player for the playlist you already have from your TV provider, in Xtream Codes or M3U format. It doesn’t sell or include channels, movies, series or playlists.
Which playlist formats does Streamr support?
Streamr supports Xtream Codes logins (server, username and password), M3U and M3U8 playlist links, and M3U files saved on your Mac. Xtream Codes gives the richest experience: posters, plots, season lists and catch-up. See adding Xtream Codes and adding an M3U playlist.
Where do I get an Xtream Codes login or M3U link?
From your TV provider, usually in the welcome email they sent when you signed up with them. Streamr doesn’t provide logins or playlists.
Does Streamr have a TV guide (EPG)?
Yes. Streamr loads your provider’s guide automatically and shows it as a full grid with catch-up on archive channels. You can also add a custom XMLTV URL, shift programme times and set how often it refreshes.
Privacy and security
What do you see of what I watch?
Nothing. Streams play directly from your provider to your Mac and never pass through our servers. Your account holds your email, your devices and the playlists you sync. Devices are identified by a one-way hash; your Mac’s hardware address never leaves it.
Where are my playlist passwords stored?
On your Mac, in the macOS Keychain. If you’re signed in, synced playlist passwords are also stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) on our server and are only ever returned to you.
Requirements and updates
What do I need to run Streamr?
A Mac running macOS 15 Sequoia or later — Apple silicon or Intel — and a playlist from your TV provider.
Is Streamr on the Mac App Store?
No. You download Streamr from this website. The app is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens normally, and it keeps itself up to date.
Does Streamr work on iPhone, iPad or Apple TV?
Not today. Streamr is a native Mac app.
How do I update Streamr?
You don’t have to: Streamr checks for new versions on launch and every few hours, and asks before installing. To check right away, choose Streamr › Check for Updates…. See the release notes for what changed.
